A restaurant has two main parts : The Customers and The Kitchen. How well a restaurant connects these two parts determines its success. Restaurant managers and staff are like the middlemen who link these two parts together.
On busy days , restaurants can get really crazy. Even the best ones struggle to shuffle tables , orders , and kitchen staff. To make things smoother , many restaurants use a special system called Point of Sale ( POS ) systems. These systems help managers organize things better and make it easier for waiters.
In Odoo 16 , there is a POS module that is great for managing a restaurant. It comes with lots of useful features. In this blog , we will explore how Odoo 16s POS Module is Useful to manage your restaurant.
Setting Up Your Restaurant in Odoo 16 POS
Activate Restaurant Mode :
Go to the settings in the POS module and turn on the Is a Bar / Restaurant option. This is the first step t0 configure your restaurant in Odoo 16 POS.
Start a New Session :
You can create a new session by clicking on + New Shop and selecting Bar / Restaurant.
Floor and Table Management
Floor and table management are pivotal for efficient restaurant operations. Follow these steps to configure them :
The first thing you need to do when running a restaurant is to set up the layout of the place. This means deciding where the different areas or floors are and how many tables you have in each area. You can do this by adding floors and tables to the system. It’s simple – just turn on the floors and tables featured in the POS interface.
Once you’ve turned on this option, you can make new floors and tables by going to the configuration menu. It’s as easy as it looks below.
Create Floors and Tables :
Open the Floor Configure menu and Add floors and tables as needed.
Design Tables :
For each floor , design tables by specifying the number of chairs and their shape.
Table Plan :
Customize your table plan by naming tables , specifying the number of seats , and how they look.
Connect Floor Plan :
Before saving make sure that the floor plan you have created is linked to the right POS
Kitchen Notes
Another handy feature for restaurant management is called “Kitchen Notes.” It lets waiters add special messages or notes to the orders they take. You can turn on this Kitchen Notes feature by going into the settings of the PoS module, just like you see below.
Simplifying the process of incorporating extra special instructions and customer notes regarding specific requests is essential. When customers place orders at restaurants , they often have preferences such as adjusting the spice level or omitting certain ingredients. Neglecting these requests cloud impact customer satisfaction significantly.
The upcoming feature in restaurant management is Early Receipt Printing. This feature empowers users to print receipts before making payment. You can activate it through the settings within the Point of Sake ( POS ) module, as shown below.
Once this feature is activated , it introduces a new button called Bill To the interface. This button facilitates the printing of bills before payment, as shown below.
Upon clicking the Bill button, the option for bill printing becomes available , as shown below.
Bill Splitting
Next up is the Allow Bill Splitting feature , which can be activated within the settings of the POS module.
With Bill Splitting now enabled in the setup , you will notice the addition of Guest and Split buttons. These buttons enable you to input order lines for each guest and process them individually.
Clicking on the Split button navigates you to a page where you can perform bill splitting by simply clicking on the product, which then divides it accordingly , as shown below.
Kitchen Printers
Integrating workflows with printers can enhance communication and collaboration between the front – of – house and back – of – house teams , leading to a more efficient and effective service. In Odoo 16’s Restaurant management feature , there is a feature called Kitchen Printers that allows for order printing in the kitchen, at the bar , and more. You can enable this feature within the settings of the POS module , as shown below.
Users also have the capability to generate Order Printers through the configuration menu, as shown below.
When selecting the Order PRinter option. It grants the user access to configure specific printer details , including the Printer Name , PRinter Type , IOT Device , and Epson Printer IP Address , as displayed below.
In the setup from your installation , please select the relevant Printer Type. If your printer is connected to an IOT device , choose the appropriate device from the IOT Device field , ensuring it corresponds to the printer connected to the IOT Box.
Alternatively , if you are using an Epson printer that does not require an IOT box, opt for Use an Epson printer and input the printer’ IP address in the designed Epson Printer IP Address field.
Tips
Allow customers to leave tips or convert their change into a tip by turning on Tip Management. Activate the Tips function in Point of Sale Configuration Settings, and customers can select and confirm their tip amount during payment.
To include tips with an order in the interface , navigate to the payment screen and choose the Tip option. Once you have entered the desired tip amount, finalize the payment process by clicking Confirm , as shown below.
When you click the Tip button , the Tip payment option becomes available , as shown below.
Order Transfer
In Restaurant management , another valuable feature is the Transfer option. After an order has been placed , customers may occasionally need to change tables.
To ensure a smooth transition for the customer when changing tables and to avoid any confusion or misunderstanding , we provide a convenient way to move the order to the new table. You can accomplish this by using the Transfer button on the main interface. Just click on Transfer and select the new table to which you would like to relocate the order.
